2024 Florida Mining Hall of Fame Inductee

Congratulations to the 2024 Florida Mining Hall of Fame Inductee, Brian Millington!

A little over 16 years ago, Brian Millington joined the mine rescue team once he had the year’s requirement of experience in the mines. Coming from a Fire, Rescue, and EMS background, he immediately saw the need for more advanced training and started advocating for more advanced tactics related to his background. Trying to merge the outside Fire, Rescue, and EMS background with mine rescue, he was able to boost the team’s knowledge of real scenario-based situations helping improve the overall emergency response and preparedness of the program at Nyrstar. With over 20 years of experience with emergency services, the transition into mine rescue came easy for Brian. However, these two environments are very different in nature so training platforms and structures had to be changed to fit the mine rescue profile. Being able to relate and merge the two different environments has been deemed very successful for Brian as he strives to ensure that teams are capable of responding to and mitigating any possible event or emergency that may happen at a mine site or underground.

In 2016, Brian took over the Mine Rescue Training Coordinator role for Nyrstar and restructured the team for success. As an advocate for mine rescue, Brian also serves on the National Mine Rescue Rules Committee and the National Surface Mine Rescue Rules Committee helping develop and establish rules for mine rescue so that teams can learn, train, and hone in on their skills at mine rescue events across the Nation. Brian is also a member of the Florida Mine Rescue Task Force and serves as the Director of the Tennessee Mine Rescue Association. Additionally, Brian serves on the executive committee for the Holmes Mine Rescue Association and is currently the President of the Kentucky Mining Institute helping with the KMI mine rescue contest. Brian is passionate about mine rescue and continues to strive to help advance the needs of mine rescue teams for years to come.

Congratulations on your induction into the Florida Mining Hall of Fame, Brian!
