When every second counts, training and teamwork can mean the difference between life and death.

The Southeast Mine Safety & Health Conference Hero Award honors miners who demonstrate courage in life-threatening situations by using their safety training to save lives.

In 2018, the award recognized miners at Sibelco’s Red Hill Facility — Brian Gibbs, Bill Swann, David Ayers, Rodney Huskins, Scott Butler, and Blake Parker — for their quick response when a co-worker collapsed. Their immediate CPR and AED use kept their colleague alive until paramedics arrived.

This year, the Conference is once again seeking Hero Award nominations to recognize miners who have shown this same level of bravery and preparedness.

⛏️ Nominees must be miners.
